ChoreBucks started as a chore and allowance tracker. With version 2.2, it's becoming the family hub we always envisioned. This update brings shared shopping lists, home screen widgets on both platforms, Dynamic Island support on iPhone, and four new languages—taking us to 11 languages total.
Shared Shopping & Todo Lists
Families don't just share chores—they share grocery runs, errand lists, and weekend plans. The new Shopping & Todo Lists feature lets everyone in the family create, view, and check off items together in real time.
How It Works
- Create up to 5 lists per family—groceries, school supplies, weekend errands, whatever you need
- Up to 200 items per list with real-time sync across all family members
- Per-member access control—choose which children can see and edit each list
- Check off items together—when someone picks up milk at the store, everyone sees it instantly
No more texting “did you get the bread?” or coming home with three cartons of milk because nobody knew someone else had already bought one.
Shopping Mode on iPhone
On iPhone, shopping lists get a special superpower: Live Activities. When you start shopping, your list appears right on the Dynamic Island and lock screen. Tap items to check them off without even unlocking your phone. It's the fastest way to get through a grocery run.
Android users get a similar experience with an ongoing shopping notification that keeps your list accessible while you browse the aisles.
Home Screen Widgets
The best family app is the one you don't have to open. With home screen widgets on both iOS and Android, ChoreBucks now lives right where you need it.
My Day Widget
Kids and parents see their daily overview at a glance:
- Today's chores and completion status
- Pending approvals waiting for parents
- Current streak and pet status
- Earnings so far this period
Family Overview Widget
Parents get a bird's-eye view of the whole family:
- Each child's progress for the day
- Who's completed their chores and who hasn't started yet
- Quick access to approve pending tasks
Both widgets are available in multiple sizes and update automatically as chores are completed throughout the day.
4 New Languages: Italian, Spanish, Portuguese & Hungarian
ChoreBucks now speaks 11 languages. With this update, we've added:
- Italiano—full Italian localization
- Español—Spanish for families across Spain and Latin America
- Português—Brazilian Portuguese
- Magyar—Hungarian
These join our existing support for English, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, French, and German. Every screen, notification, and setting is fully translated—no half-translated menus or English-only error messages.
The app automatically detects your device language and switches accordingly. You can also manually change the language in Settings at any time.
Why These Features Matter
Each feature in this update addresses something families told us they needed:
- Shopping lists were our most-requested feature. Families already use ChoreBucks daily—adding shared lists keeps everything in one place instead of juggling separate apps.
- Widgets reduce friction. The fewer taps it takes to check on chores or approve a task, the more consistently families use the system. Consistency is what makes allowance and chore systems work.
- New languages open the door for millions more families. Teaching kids about money and responsibility isn't an English-only concept.
